Through life we are inspired by different things, maybe a certain event, maybe a certain book, maybe a certain quote, maybe a certain film or maybe a certain person.

Below are three speakers that have their own approach to helping animals, and each inspired me in a different way.  Enjoy.

Dr. Will Tuttle - worldpeacediet.org/

Talk - The World Peace Diet - Being Healthy and Saving the Planet

Juliet Gellatley - viva.org.uk

Talk - Why you don't need Dairy!

Thursday Post - A Poem

24/7/2014

I've started putting words together that work, am I a poet?  This poem is in draft form, and was meant to be a song, but in its current form it is a poem.

The cow song

I am not beef,

I am not 2 litres semi-skimmed,

I am not a slave, I am a cow.

I am not steak,

I am not mince meat lasagna,

I am not a slave, I am a cow.

I am not medium rare with peppercorn sauce,

I am not a big mac with large fries,

I am not haribo, or jelly,

I am not beef stroganoff,

I am not half price at tescos,

I am not grilled and smokey,

I am not a steak and ale pie with a pint, with your mates,

I am not a chef’s special on Fridays.

My skin is not a new belt, or fancy shoes or the latest jacket,

My children are calves, not suede or veal,

They are not yours to use and steal,

My skin is not a drum, is not a lamp, or saddle, or bridle,

I don’t want a number through my ear, a ring through my nose or a branding scar on my skin,

I am not a slave, I am a cow.

I am a daughter, I am a niece, I am an auntie, I am a cousin and I am a mother.

I am not a slave, I am a cow!

Raw Legends!!

12/7/2014

So to do a whole marathon of 26 miles 385 yards is a feat in itself. I cant imagine what someones body feels like the day after one of those. So to do 2 marathons in a week would be impressive, and say 4 in a month would also be amazing! We'll what if I said a human being could run 366 consecutive races over a year, would you think I was joking. Not only 366, but only eating raw fruits and vegetables for energy?

We'll...

I'm not joking because Jeanette Murray-Waklin and Alan Murray have done it, when they ran around Australia, finishing at the start of this year! Raw Legends!! Yea, thats right a world record of 366 MARATHONS!

Their efforts are amazing, considering they are in their 60's, and the fact that Jeanette overcame cancer (through eating a raw vegan diet).

Here is some words about why they did it from their website,

'To inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices,
to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and
to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future,
veteran raw vegan runners Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray ran together around Australia, 15,782 km, 366 marathons each in 366 consecutive days throughout the year 2013.

Janette and Alan finished running 365 marathons in 365 days in Melbourne December 31, 2013.
On January 1, 2014 they ran one more marathon #366
to set a new World Record for the most consecutive marathons,
the only couple to Run Around Australia, both 60+ years young,
fueled entirely on a raw vegan plant-based diet and wearing barefoot shoes!
Together they have proven beyond any doubt, that by living a conscious lifestyle,
you are never too old (and never too young) to achieve optimum health and physical fitness.

Reality check in my latest talk.

My latest talk was at Bristol Vegfest in May, (video below) and it allowed me to talk about things that seem to get ignored.

Like say if an animal has characteristics described like a human does, such as a heart, lungs, arms, legs, mouth, eyes, ears, tongue, liver, anus and kidneys. And when a human dies they become a decaying corpse, then so an animal too becomes a decaying corpse. Human corpses can be sent to a mortuary/morgue, but farmed animals (and some horses) get sent to supermarkets and butchers. Or, in fact, the best description is the 'the morgue aisle'. I discuss this topic and plant-eating, world record breaking athletes, among other things in my talk below. All comments welcome.

The 3rd annual Rawfest will be held in the peaceful and natural landscape of the East Sussex countryside, 30 minutes from Brighton and 1hr 50minutes from London.

At its centre it is a festival about organic raw vegan food, but also covers so many other things from meditation, relaxation, wellness, massage, wildfoods and permaculture. I’m looking forward to the wild food foraging, and I will definitely see more things once I’m there, as there is a lot of things happening over the 4 days. Also each year my taste buds have been treated to so many new foods like raw courgette lasagna, maca desserts and raw vegan sushi. I always leave the festival feeling inspired to try new recipes myself. Nom, nom, nom, not long now!!

I’ve crossed paths and met so many fascinating and awesome people at one festival, and I’m looking forward to more of the same again this year.

I will be speaking there again with my talk ‘Choose Vegan, Improve the World’ so if you’d like to see it live come along to Rawfest. There will be over 50 talks there including Rawfest founder Lia Aquila. Among other things she will be talking about how easy it is to eat rawfoods, her health improvements through eating that way and how to "Learn simple raw food recipes that taste amazing, take just minutes to make and will really help to change your life!'. Another speaker there is the inspirational power lifting World record holder and Vegan athlete Pat Reeves.

Rawfest is tasty!

Rawfest is insightful!

Rawfest is welcoming!

Rawfest is inspiring!

Rawfest is Rawsome!

Regular Thursday Posts - No.1

4/7/2014

Here is my first regular Thursday post. I intend to add one post every Thursday from now on (or as close to it).

So here is the first one :

WHAT IS VEGAN?

What it means to me, wont be entirely expressed through writing here, but I will add a brief overview. It is to avoid using and consuming animal products, because unnecessary pain and suffering has been inflicted on those animals for us to have the choice to use them. It seems weird for an animal to endure this so that I can have something I don't actually need. There are no nutrients humans cant get from plants. It has also been pointed out by many people including Juliet Gellatley, Dr. Melanie Joy, James Wildman, Dr. Will Tuttle, that animals can also see with their eyes, feel with touch, smell with their noses, feel fear, taste with their mouth, eat food, have children and many things just the same as humans can. I personally wouldn't like to live a life of slavery from birth, probably feeling helpless, trapped and depressed, then killed, so that another animal can have a so called 'tasty snack'. Or if I was born female my children taken away from me, or my milk, or unfertilised eggs to be consumed by someone else, purely for their pleasures, not needs.

Here are some great words and points about Veganism from  www.nonviolenceunited.org/

Compassion.
Nonviolence.
For the People.
For the Planet.
For the Animals.

Meanings from the Concise Oxford English Dictionary

Compassion:
Noun - Sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.
– origin Middle English: via Old French from ecclesiastical Latin compassio(n-), from compati ‘suffer with’.

 non-violence :
Noun - The use of peaceful means, not force, to bring about political or social change.
– derivatives non-violent adjective. non-violently adverb.

And the three great points,

For The People.
For The Planet.
For The Animals.
