I stumbled across this video a few years ago! It change the way I see some things, and helped me evolve. Above is a tasty meal I put together!! Nom!!
I was chatting with some friends about a year ago, about my crisps, and it got pointed out 'Are your Paprika crisps Vegan?"
This got me thinking because if cow cheese can have animal stomach scrapings (rennet) in, beer can have fish (isinglass) in it, then what might there be in those crisps, pigs ears? One of my friends suggested emailing the manufacturer. So I did. What I got was a quick response and a big list of all the vegan friendly ones they supply, here is a small part of the list. Walkers Prawn Cocktail Flavour Crisps Walkers Worcester Sauce Flavour Crisps Walkers Extra Crunchy - Flame Grilled Steak Walkers Extra Crunchy - King Prawn Cocktail Walkers MAX Chargrilled Steak Flavour Doritos BBQ Rib Walkers MAX Paprika Flavour I just emailed them this evening to see if any of these have changed in the year since they gave me the list. So why am I writing about this, well because it is good to find things out, and the small task of sending an email can get you what you want to know. Its also a good sign that for those people who feel that they couldn't live without the taste of meat, it is possible to replicate the flavours using vegetable sources! So there I was wondering through Vegfest Bristol when I spotted a workshop, Writing Activism – the power of writing and imagination as effective advocacy. At first I talked myself out of going because “I’m not a writer”, but a spark was ignited and made me think about the positive effects writing can, and could have. The workshop was started by the peaceful, intriguing and open Ruth Hawe, who talked about her book ‘Holy cow’. This gave us a little insight into it, and straight away I was pulled in and fascinated. We all then began getting involved to create a piece of our own writing to put onto sticky notes. These notes were then mixed up and read out by everyone. By hearing my words from another perspective was a fresh and liberating experience. I’m personally looking forward to going to another of Ruth’s future workshops, and would encourage everyone and anyone to try one too.
Here is Ruth's website - http://vegantopia.co.uk/ And here is her facebook group - www.facebook.com/groups/302137036536244/?fref=ts Below is a picture from the workshop. I posted about Dr. Will Tutlle before, but he deserves another mention! He is a musician, writer and speaker among other things, and has a best selling book aptly named 'The World Peace Diet". Below is one of his great talks, please check it out! I found this video a year or so ago and feel that it highlights several really interesting points, like the fact that we as a race could feed all humans on Earth by not fattening up animals. The video is called 'Not the Queens Christmas Message 2012 - What the Queen Didn't Say!' Viva! are an animal charity based in Bristol, England. They do tremendous work in exposing the truth, and have been helping animals and people for 20 years! Great work!!!! Heres some of what they've been doing! |
