So there I was wondering through Vegfest Bristol when I spotted a workshop, Writing Activism – the power of writing and imagination as effective advocacy. At first I talked myself out of going because “I’m not a writer”, but a spark was ignited and made me think about the positive effects writing can, and could have. The workshop was started by the peaceful, intriguing and open Ruth Hawe, who talked about her book ‘Holy cow’. This gave us a little insight into it, and straight away I was pulled in and fascinated. We all then began getting involved to create a piece of our own writing to put onto sticky notes. These notes were then mixed up and read out by everyone. By hearing my words from another perspective was a fresh and liberating experience. I’m personally looking forward to going to another of Ruth’s future workshops, and would encourage everyone and anyone to try one too.
