I got the chance to interview Mark Sanders-Barwick for the show and we explored some really interesting topics. They ranged from his early years growing up on a farm, his work with Sea Shepherd, Italian Vegan ice cream and lots more.

There is a lot of information available about sustainability and the environment, with more and more of it all pointing towards the same facts. These are that a vegan plant-based system is achievable worldwide, uses less resources, cause less GHG (Green House Gases), use less land, has a lighter impact on the oceans and a whole host of other more beneficial reasons than using a system that invloves animal products. Sustainability is very complex because there are so many variables and so many different ways to produce foods and different land uses. So someone who only eats road kill or found dead animals will create a low impact on the environment and a vegan forager would also create a low impact. But these are rare outliers and are not realistic for a world population of around 7.6 Billion humans. The 1st of January can be a day to cut down booze, exercise more, start knitting or anything else we choose.
The team over at Veganuary.com have made it so easy and simple to go vegan for that month and beyond. I started pescatarian and then started Vegan on January 1st. I advocate people start somewhere and do what they can, so if you've been thinking of cutting out dairy, going pescatarian or going vegan now is the time.
