So life happens! I have decided to open up, be honest and be vulnerable about my experiences. I'm doing this because it has helped me in the past to hear others doing the same. I have experienced first hand threats of violence, actual violence, psychological abuse, near death experiences. What has happened from that is that I have experienced several things, - Anxiety - Social Anxiety - Panic Attacks - Depression - PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) - Insomnia - Flashbacks - Dissociation - Sleep Paralysis What I wish I knew years ago is that others have experienced these things too. And also that there is things we can do. I have tried most of the list above, and have found improvements along the way. I have been seeing councillors, therapists and clinical psychologists for around 17 years. What I can say is that some have helped. And even if they didn't, I never really lost anything by trying. At one point I found that the panic attacks happened a lot and were taking over. One tool that really helped me was grounding techniques (or what I describe as a PTSD kit). I have a set of photos, mantras, grounding techniques that live in my wallet, so that I can use them whenever needed. Here are some that you can use yourself, Site 1- https://library.sheffieldchildrens.nhs.uk/grounding-techniques/ Site 2 - https://www.healthline.com/health/grounding-techniques#bonus-tips These 2 pdfs are also really helpful.
